Now that you’re getting serious in your quest to become a netpreneur, it’s time to arm yourself with the best possible internet connection possible. You deserve it – and you’ll probably be surprised at the cost and the extra productivity.
Remember the days of dial-up internet – imagine trying to do business on a dial up connection today? Downloading a 2MB file would take half a day! Thankfully, we’ve moved on – although Australian internet broadband infrastructure still lags behind many countries, some of which are not as highly developed as Australia.
I have just upgraded my Primus ADSL broadband to ADSL 2+, which is the fastest possible internet connection that I can achieve in my suburb. You’d think that an upgrade would cost me money, but in fact, I am now paying less for my broadband than I did before. Previously I was on a package with a huge monthly download/upload allowance, that I never came close to reaching. Now I’m on a lower data plan and paying quite substantially less than I did before, with a faster connection speed.
I was reminded of the importance of my broadband during the transition from ADSL to ADSL 2+ – there was a 2 day outage caused by a problem at the local exchange. I managed to survive on a Telstra wireless broadband card, but not without a few anxious moments when I couldn’t connect. As a netpreneur, you need to have redundancy – if you can’t get online, you can’t do business.
So now is a good time to review your current broadband plan and upgrade if you have the ability to do so.
By the way, here’s a useful utility that will tell you how fast your broadband connection is: http://www.speedtest.net
