Useful Link: Convert your blog content to a podcast using Odiogo

odiogo

I recently stumbled across a blog plug-in that converts your blog posts to audio automatically.  Now your blog visitors can listen to your posts or subscribe to your posts via a podcast feed and listen on-the-go.  And it’s free.

According to the website, Odiogo’s media-shifting technology expands the reach of your content: It transforms news sites and blog posts into high fidelity, near human quality audio files ready to download and play anywhere, anytime, on any device.

I trialled it with the Boomerang Books Blog and the Getaroom Travel Bites Blog and it works pretty well.  It’s an American voice, but it’s quite clear and will certainly offer your customers something more than a textual experience.  It’s also great for vision impaired visitors.

It’s worth a go – you can sign up for free on the Odiogo website at http://www.odiogo.com/index.php

Assorted Links and Stuff

A late night of checking out stuff on the web – here’s what I looked at:

Action List: Release a viral video

viral-marketing

I wish that I had the smarts to come up with a fantastic idea like this one:

http://www.themessagegroup.com.au/last-nights-news.php?title=20090118-Clayton-Wehner_create.html

The Message Group are a great innovative Australian company (they’re the guys that display those funny little hand banners behind the goals at the footy) and apparently this video has been viewed over 2 million times since it was released last year.  That really goes to show the power of viral marketing.

By the way, you can create your own video at http://www.worldsgreatestbusinessmind.com and send it on to your friends…

Another favourite of mine is the Elf Yourself video which appears every Christmas.  It has brought great marketing exposure for OfficeMax all around the world.  A simple idea, but one that is highly contagious and spreads like wildfire!

And here’s another ripper video from shoe manufacturer Asics.  I will certainly never buy another brand of running shoe after viewing this very inspirational video.

Action List: Get cheap user testing with UserTesting.com

user-testing

I recently came across a service called UserTesting.com which offers low-priced online user testing via the web.  For a fee, you receive a 15 minute video of a tester undertaking specified tasks on your website, whilst providing commentary about the site’s useability.

I thought I would give the service a go by trialling it on my newly redeveloped website, Getaroom.com.au.  I ordered two videos for $38 and within about half an hour I received my videos.

Now, I wouldn’t say that the tester were the world’s most ’switched on’ people, but they probably did fit the profile of everyday, ordinary punters that would use a website like mine.  In that regard, the findings were very useful.

Both testers found different ways to book hotel accommodation in Brisbane, as per the provided script, and that goes to show how website users think and act differently.

It’s great to see how they ‘think’ through the process of undertaking the actions required – you can see where their focus is and where the mouse pointer travels, as they explain their thought processes.

All in all, I gleaned some useful feedback that I have channelled back to the developers for rectification.

I would recommend doing some cheap user testing on http://www.usertesting.com.

Of course, you could also ask your friends to spend some time on your test site and to suggest fixes and enhancements – it’s cheaper and the testing is likely to be more thorough.
